At CAREL, people, inclusion and workplace safety define how we support sustainable growth. We create working environments where diversity is valued, human rights are protected, professional skills can grow, and workplace safety is managed through prevention, training and continuous improvement. 

Our 2025–2028 Sustainability Plan includes specific commitments on diversity and inclusion, human rights and working conditions, professional development, health and safety, and support for local communities.

At CAREL, sustainable growth is supported by measurable ESG commitments that focus on people’s wellbeing, inclusion and safe working conditions.

In 2025, CAREL employed about 3,000 people globally, mainly across Europe, Asia and North America. The workforce brings together executives, white-collar and blue-collar employees, with different ages, skills, roles and geographical backgrounds. 

We consider people the main driver of progress and innovation. Our approach focuses on attracting and retaining talent, understanding employee needs, developing professional skills and promoting a workplace that supports both personal and professional growth. 

CAREL connects inclusion, human rights, training and workplace safety in one social sustainability framework. This makes our commitments understandable for candidates, useful for internal stakeholders and measurable for investors, ESG analysts and other corporate audiences.

A fairer workplace through inclusive leadership

Gender equality is part of a broader commitment to building a workplace where people can grow fairly and feel supported in their professional and personal life. In Italy, the CAREL Headquarters has implemented a Gender Equality Management System certified according to UNI/PdR 125:2022, with risk assessment and policy review processes, a dedicated Gender Equality Steering Committee and KPIs across six assessment areas. The certification process also considered risks related to violence and gender equality. 

To make this commitment part of everyday working life, we defined a Gender Equality Policy and a Parenting Policy, supporting fair HR processes, parenting, work-life balance and inclusive communication. 

Training helps turn inclusion into daily behaviour. Employees are trained on diversity and gender equality topics, including age diversity, digital natives, reverse mentoring and gender diversity. Harassment prevention is also part of this inclusion path. 

Human rights, working conditions and employee wellbeing

Human rights at CAREL are based on clear principles for people and the value chain.

Our Human Rights Policy rejects child labour, forced labour, harassment and discrimination. It also recognises freedom of association, collective bargaining, adequate remuneration, decent working hours and privacy protection.

Professional development and continuous learning

Professional development supports individual growth and long-term retention. We invest in training paths that strengthen technical knowledge, transversal skills, ESG awareness and leadership capabilities.

Specific training programmes are structured for new hires and young talent to help them understand the company, culture and strategy and to develop transversal skills. 

A shared culture of safety and prevention

Workplace safety at CAREL is built on prevention, shared responsibility and the active involvement of people. Across the Group, risks are systematically assessed, preventive measures are integrated into daily operations and continuous improvement helps create safer working environments for everyone.

This commitment is supported by our Health, Safety, Environment & Sustainability policy, with ISO 45001-certified operations already in place at several of CAREL's main production sites and progressively being extended across the Group.

Training plays a key role in strengthening a shared safety culture. Alongside structured health and safety programmes, regular toolbox talks and targeted refresher sessions help keep people informed about workplace-specific risks, reinforcing awareness, safe behaviours and prevention in everyday activities.

Diversity and inclusion

Turning policy into everyday progress means setting clear, measurable actions. CAREL aims to comply with the EU Pay Transparency Directive by 2026, develop a Diversity and Inclusion Training and Awareness Plan by 2028, and draft a Group salary policy by 2028.

Human rights

Strengthening respect for human rights starts with clearer policies, stronger due diligence and greater awareness across the Group. CAREL aims to update its Human Rights Policy, adapt the Human Rights Due Diligence process according to the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive by 2026, and develop a Human Rights Training and Awareness Plan by 2028.

Health and safety

A safer workplace depends on shared standards and continuous improvement. By 2028, and considering 2023 as the reference perimeter year, CAREL aims to extend ISO 45001 coverage to 69% of Group production plants through an ISO 45001-certified Occupational Safety Management System.
